SAFI Apparel celebrates the bright culture and designs experienced in the East African country, Tanzania. While in the peace corps, the owner, David, spent a lot of time helping out the various villages in Tanzania and fell in love with the culture. He saw the beautiful patterns and clothing that the people wore and was inspired to bring those designs back to America. The challenge was to capture the essence of the culture into a simple mark. The lion represents strength and purity and Tanzania has the highest lion population of any country in Africa.
“I first met Matt at San Jose State, we were both undergrads but I always knew he had a passion in graphic design and talent in the creative space. After almost a decade, I started Safi Apparel. Our mission is focused on empowering people through vibrant apparels. The tailors are local community members in Tanzania and the proceeds would go back to fund local projects. I hired Matt to help translate our vision to a logo. Tanzania is well known for the infamous Serengeti landscape and I remember proposing the lion. We did some revisions and Matt would be super helpful and showed multiple versions. He ultimately nailed our logo and lettering. The logo truly represents our brand and his devotion to the craft shows. I highly recommend Matt for businesses that want solid ideas and executes with creativity.
